Who owns an ePortfolio you might ask?

This question immediately takes me back to the classroom setting. When I have to give students Six Weeks tests or the STAAR at the end of the year, I can instantly think of the fixed mindset that sets in for my students. It isn't easy having them buy-in to the learning process when it is challenging to make meaningful connections to worksheets and reading passages at 8 or 9 years old. When I have the opportunity to implement project or play-based learning experiences throughout the year, I can almost instantly see their entire mindset change. They are always more open to various experiences and exploring their thought process deeper. When students are given a choice and a voice in their specific style of learning that works for them, they are more prone to making meaningful connections and experiencing more in-depth, authentic learning. Watching their little minds have the opportunity to explore and be authentic and creative allows them to be proud of their work and truly own it.

So who owns an ePortfolio, you might ask? After reflecting over the readings for this week, I ultimately think the creator of the ePortfolio owns it. It is a representation of who they are and their work set up in a specific way that allows the creator to have a choice and a voice in their authentic learning or life experiences. Without this buy-in mindset and making meaningful connections and reflections, the creator can often lose sight of the point of creating the ePortfolio in the first place and then necessarily does not own it.

It has been interesting transitioning from the Admin classes to the DLL classes. This experience has allowed me to experience the COVA approach. Creating my EP with the COVA approach has allowed me to showcase my work in a way that best represents me. The COVA approach gives me a choice and a voice in the decisions I make, which creates more authentic learning experiences, which allows me to create something I am proud of. Looking at various classmates' ePortfolios, I can genuinely get a sense of who they are and what they stand for. I enjoy looking at everyone's authentic learning experiences.
