Professional Learning Networks

08/11/2020

Professional learning networks are something that I have always been aware of, but no one has explained the purpose and benefits of joining and becoming a member of one. This class has opened my eyes to many learning networking opportunities. Some of the learning networks mentioned in class the other night I have heard of before. I am eager to begin looking into them and finding out more information about them. These networking tools could be significant to my progression of knowledge in the future of my career.

After some reflection, I realized that I utilize Pinterest or my social media accounts, A LOT. The resources are just right at my fingertips, just clicks away. I suppose I am more of a consumer, and with more experience, I hope to become a contributor later too! I use these tools to get ideas, brainstorm, see what other teachers are doing in their classrooms and at their schools, and what works best for them. Pinterest allows me to find resources from other educators to make lessons more creative and interactive or what to do to help improve classroom management and best practices. Honestly, Pinterest is my go-to! It is a doorway to so many ideas that lead to teacher blogs, various teaching websites, etc. It allows me to find countless resources that I can implement or incorporate into my classroom or on my campus.

Some of my favorite other favorite online resources include, We are Teachers, The Teacher Toolkit, and Education Week. We are Teachers is kind of like your "teacher's lounge" online, where you can find support and encouragement from others, get an excellent idea for your next reading or math lesson, and find a quick laugh when you need a "pick me up." The purpose of the Teacher Toolkit is to share various tools and strategies with a wide range of amateur and experienced teachers in a web-based format that includes video illustrations of the tools and strategies. Education Week is an independent news organization that provides comprehensive coverage on K-12 education news.

After reading peers posts this week and seeing what networks and resources are valuable to them, I have combined them in on my Learning Networks page under my resources tabs. If you have any recommendations, please send them my way!
