Growth Mindset
I was recently introduced to the concept of Fixed vs. Growth Mindsets and the Power of Yet. It is something I was previously aware of, thinking of it just relatively as "Positive Thinking". Through recent research I have developed a plan that helps to support a growth mindset in myself and in others within my organization such as students in my classroom.
Dr. Carol Dweck is a psychologist known for her research and work on the physiological mindset trait. According to Dweck, "In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work-brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment" (Bower, 2018).
A growth mindset is something fitting for everyone and can be applied to any situation. Below, I have created a presentation of my authentic learning experience exploring the Fixed vs. Growth Mindsets and The Power of Yet as an overview. I have also created a plan of strategies on ways to implement the growth mindset in my classroom with my students. Please check them out!
